Linda Lawrence MD Dr. Lawrence completed her undergraduate education at Texas A&M University, and medical school and Ophthalmology residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. She started a private practice in Ophthalmology in Salina, Kansas in 1986. In response to a great need in the community she began a free program for Functional Vision Assessment and Intervention for infants and toddlers with "different abilities" in conjunction with the Infant Childhood Development at Salina Regional Heath Center, This program has outreached to children in other communities, as well as the local school systems. Their finding, documenting the high rate of ocular pathology in children with disabilities, have been presented at the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Academy for Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine to advocate for early eye care and intervention. In 1998, Dr. Lawrence began as an international volunteer where she was influential in setting up Pediatric ophthalmology programs in India and Guatemala. She began the Amaranth Foundation in 2003 whose mission is "to help children achieve their full potential." The foundation networks, and empowers others locally, statewide in Kansas, and on 3 continents. Her travels have taken her to Peru, Guatemala, Costa Rica, India, Rwanda, Nigeria, and Vietnam as a volunteer, where she advocates for early intervention for rehabilitation of children with special needs; as well as performs and teaches cataract surgery for adults. She is a volunteer for project ORBIS, Surgical Eye Expeditions International, volunteer faculty of the University of Kansas Medical School, on the Advisory Board of the Kansas Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired, and consults with the Kansas State School for the Blind.
