Teen Empowerment Academy

We have done it again! The National Federation of the Blind is excited to roll out the next installment of programming dedicated to creating a future full of endless opportunities for blind teens--the NFB Teen Empowerment Academy!

This program will…

  • Provide nonvisual instruction on critical blindness techniques including Braille, assistive technology, mobility, and daily living skills.
  • Launch students into the working world by involving them in a paid work experience.
  • Assist students in developing a proactive attitude towards blindness.;
  • Expose students to countless blind role models by taking them to the week-long convention of the NFB in Dallas, Texas.;
  • Discuss blindness-related issues including going to college, making friends, getting involved with the community, etc.
  • Engage the students in many outdoor recreational challenge activities.

Who Can Apply:

Legally blind high school students who have an open case with their state’s vocational rehabilitation agency or who have an alternative funding source.

All applications must be received by Tuesday, April 1, 2008.
